A maritime access control system in the open sea that includes at least two buoys (1, 1a) that, in use, are anchored and separated from each other, defining a virtual line of controlled access. Each buoy (1) comprises a chamber (4) oriented towards the other buoy (1). The camera (4) is coupled with a processor configured to detect in real time the presence of a vessel in the captured image and to send through a communications unit data related to the detection.
